We love the month of October at Town and Country Orthodontics! It marks the beginning of cooler weather, candy, costumes, trick or treating, but best of all, it’s the National Orthodontic Health Month!
Each year, the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) celebrates the month of October as a time to recognize the advantages of orthodontic treatment. The goal of orthodontic treatment is to achieve a good bite, and straightening teeth comes with the process. We believe that a good bite not only makes it easier for you to chew, but it also improves your overall health and confidence!
So…during a month full of crunchy, gooey, and sticky candy treats, it’s more important than ever that patients be kind to their teeth during treatment. Dr. Carin Domann and Dr. Angela Orfanos think it’s fun to enjoy these treats but you can also opt for candy that is softer to chew like peanut butter cups, chocolate kisses, or other treats that tend to melt in your mouth. Avoiding crunchy candy with nuts or sticky things like caramel or taffy is best when you have braces. It’s always good to brush and floss, but even rinsing your mouth with water after enjoying these sugary treats helps prevent cavities.
So remember to have fun this month and get spooky, but just remember to take care of your teeth while enjoying those yummy Halloween treats!!
